苹果承诺投资10亿美元提振美国制造业

Apple is investing $1bn in a new US-based “advanced manufacturing fund” as part of an effort to boost American job creation, a move that chimes with Donald Trump’s America First agenda. 

苹果(Apple)将向美国一支新的“先进制造业基金”注资10亿美元，这是该公司为扩大美国就业创造机会而付出的努力的一部分，也与美国总统唐纳德•特朗普的“美国优先”议程合拍。

The investment comes after the US president criticized Apple during last year’s election campaign over its reliance on manufacturing the iPhone and other products overseas, particularly in China. 

在去年的选战中，特朗普曾批评苹果过于依赖在海外（尤其是中国）生产iPhone及其他产品。

Apple is the latest Silicon Valley company to attempt to build bridges with the new administration, after Amazon promised to create 100,000 US jobs over the next two years and Intel said it would invest a total of $7bn in a new chip-making plant in Arizona. 

苹果是最新一家试图与美国新政府搞好关系的硅谷公司。此前，亚马逊承诺要在今后两年里在美创造10万个就业岗位，英特尔表示会向亚利桑那州一个新的芯片制造厂投资总计70亿美元。

Overseas companies also seem to be falling into line. This week Indian IT group Infosys has pledged to hire 10,000 Americans in the next two years. Tim Cook, Apple’s chief executive, told CNBC in an interview on Wednesday that the new fund’s first investment in an as-yet unnamed US venture would be announced this month, out of an “initial” $1bn commitment. 

外国企业似乎也在顺应这一潮流。本周，印度IT集团印孚瑟斯承诺要在今后两年招募1万名美国人。周三，苹果首席执行官蒂姆•库克在访谈中向CNBC表示，本月将公布这支新基金的首笔投资，投资对象是一家迄今名字仍不得而知的美国企业，资金将出自一笔10亿美元的“初始”注资承诺。

“By doing that, we can be the ripple in the pond,” Mr Cook said, because new manufacturing jobs would create new service industry positions around them. 

库克表示，“通过这么做，我们可以在池塘中激起涟漪”，因为新的制造业岗位将催生出以其为基础的服务业岗位。

He said that the fund was the first of several US job creation initiatives by Apple to come this year, including increasing the company’s own employee base and stimulating mobile app development by teaching people to code.

Apple says it has already created 2m jobs in the US, through a combination of its own employees, suppliers and app developers. It spent $50bn with US suppliers last year, including companies such as Corning, which provides glass for the iPhone. “You can bet we are going to be hiring thousands more employees in the future,” Mr Cook said.
